SURE FUTURES ARTS AWARDS
07
Artist skills & Arts Awards club
Angel Rd Middle School
February - July 07
Set up by NORCA for Sure Futures, Fruitful
Arts delivered twice weekly after-school sessions to yr 6 & 7
pupils at Angel Rd Middle School.
First an artist skills session, where students
chose to work alongside artists Tricia & Fran Cognetti or
Drama teacher Juliette Eve to practise new skills for art or
drama. Several children worked collaboratively to create characters,
scenery and a story line for an animation, which they filmed
and edited with expert help from Fruitful Arts volunteer Lizzie
Hall. This was followed by an Arts Awards advisor session for
those wishing to work towards their Bronze award.
Nine Students achieved an award with their
personal enquires reaching into areas as diverse as animation,
fashion design, architecture and music & film performance.

Summer term 07
Following Art Express taster sessions in school,
several yr 6&7 school children expressed an interest in the
Arts Awards.
Twenty children took part in art skills sessions every Monday
afternoon with artists Mandy and Georgie Manly. Nine children
chose to stay on after school and work with advisors Mandy & Emma
Cameron towards their Bronze Award. Nine children successfully
completed their award.
A highlight of both Arts Award programmes was
a visit to the Norwich School of Art Graduate degree shows. For
several children it was the first visit to an art exhibition
and they were amazed by how much fun it could be. Children were
surprised by the size and diversity of the exhibition. They particularly
relished the chance to interact with many of the works and collect
countless post cards for their Arts Award diaries.
