ENVISION @ OUTPOST
July - December 2007
A Fruitful Arts led project at OUTPOST gallery
as a part of research programmes Enquire-East and Envision. Both
enquire and envision are run by Engage, the Association of gallery
education for the UK.
The project set out:
To help young people to engage with their own artistic creativity.
To progress the potential for connection and openness of the
gallery to young people.
13-15 yr olds from The NR5 Project, who are
at risk of exclusion from school and or anti-social behaviour,
took part in workshops responding to the exhibition programme
at OUTPOST Gallery. They developed their skills and understanding
of creative processes through close collaboration with professional
arts practitioners.
The project provided a new opportunity for
the OUTPOST gallery committee to experience the reactions and
feedback of young people when encountering contemporary art in
the gallery. They worked with professional artist educators from
Fruitful Arts to gain an insight into the methodologies and practicalities
of working with young people.
The En-Titled exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre
provided a wonderful showcase of art created during the project
by all of the East cluster participants. Take a look: www.scva.org.uk/exhibitions/archive
About Enquire-East
Enquire-east is part of a national research programme, established
in 2004, which is investigating many ways in which children
and young people may be involved in the contemporary art gallery.
Enquire in the East of England was coordinated by Sainsbury Centre
for Visual Arts in Norwich and had five cluster members, each
collaborating with different groups of young people. www.en-quire.org

About Envision
The East cluster is also part of ‘envision’ another
national research and development programme through which we
are encouraged to develop young people’s programmes as
part of the permanent life of the institution. Envision prioritises
involvement of young people at risk from exclusion in the belief
that the art gallery can provide a non-competitive atmosphere
for nurturing their creativity. www.en-vision.org.uk
