ART EXPRESS - THE MOBILE ART GALLERY

Art Express is a unique mobile art gallery.

Each week Fruitful Arts bring contemporary art that they have hired from an emerging/ student artist. Children are encouraged to delve into the artists’ ideas and work out how they did it. Then they get to have a go at creating something inspired by the artwork but that’s definitely an original.

Following a sculpture tasters at Mile Cross Middle School with Yr 7, staff requested more workshops and Art Express happily integrated the existing after school art club for the spring term.

Sharing the art in an informal environment enabled the children to express their natural curiosity about how and why the artist had made the work, to make their own comments and to get inside the ideas and processes a little more by doing it them selves. It was a kind of stepping stone for year 6 &7 school children, who may not yet have many
opportunities to visit a Gallery or experienced real art ‘up close’.

They were inspired to try painting, printmaking, casting, construction, ceramics, sculpture and photography. The children really began to find an affinity with the art forms most suited to them and many have subsequently extended their personal enquiries by working with Fruitful Arts towards a Bronze Art Award.
